Sustainability

New Zealand Greenshell mussels are highly regarded as a sustainable seafood choice. As filter feeders, they derive all their nutrients naturally from seawater without additional inputs. Each farm operates under strict conditions outlined in a resource consent issued by local councils, acting as a license that regulates farm size, activities, and monitoring. Unlike some seafood, Greenshell mussels are managed under the Resource Management Act and the Aquaculture Act, not the Quota Management System. They are exclusively farmed in New Zealand and are among the world's most successfully farmed mussels.
